Daily Five Resources

Here is a check for understanding check mark my kids use during Daily 5. This allows them to have something in their hands while the other person is reading. It also helps them with asking questions. My kids LOVE these! I copy them on different colored carstock and laminate them, then cut them out. They've lasted me two years so far. Love them!

The template for this is available HERE or HERE

During Daily Five we use this check off chart. I allow the students to pick the stations they want to go to as long as they go to all stations by the end of our reading block.

You can get this chart HERE.

Third Grade Objective Posters for all Content Areas!

I made these awesome objective posters in "I can" kid language for your whiteboard! They're for all content areas, colorful and have visuals to help students understand what they're learning. I print them out, laminate them and put them on my whiteboard (which I hope to get soon!). This way, I don't have to spend 10 minutes each day writing my objectives. They're available in two themes (so far) animal print and polka dot. If you have a theme you'd like me to make for you, let me know and I will make them for you! These are based on the 2012-2013 TEKS. Listed on the cards are also the supporting and readiness standards for testing purposes. :)

So far I have Polka Dot theme where you can get HERE OR Zebra print available HERE

Filling Our Buckets

Each year I read the book 'Have You Filled A Bucket Today?' we go over bucket fillers and bucket dippers. The students leave little notes in their friends buckets to 'fill their buckets'. Here's what it looks like this year. They did such an amazing job! We colored the buckets and glued it on small brown envelopes that you would use for report cards. I cut the tops off so they just open up from the top and stuck them on the door with clear tape. Works awesome!

Expanded Notation

This is a fun and cute activity the kids did for expanded notation. They really enjoyed this and it really helped them grasp the concept!

Reading Charts!

We made some awesome reading anchor charts these past few weeks. The kids are learning Daily 5 and are already getting the hang of it. The first one shows them how to pick a good book. It's very important in third grade that students are reading on their instructional level. This chart helps them remember what a 'Just Right' book is for them. The second chart helps them remember how to retell a story. I introduced this earlier this year due to the DRA assessment we are giving at the beginning of the year. It's important they can retell the story on their own. We read the story 'MaƱana Iguana' and retold the story using our chart. We made the third chart today. We explored different genres of fiction books and made this anchor chart together. This is my favorite one so far! We are currently reading the book 'Amber Brown is Not a Crayon' as a class we will be discussing story elements and character change next week. Look for our awesome activities we do with this book next week!

Beginning of School!

What a wonderful first couple of weeks it has been! I am already in love with this group of kiddos. They are so smart, respectful, and FUN! Here is a math glyph we did the first week. They came out so cute!
